December 29, 2017 winter wonderland

Image
This is what it looks like here Dec. 29, 2017 I wonder what homeless people are doing to stay warm. I just had to put that thought in. Snow in Iowa is pretty and I can remember the fun I had a child growing up in Iowa. playing in the snow. sliding down hills on sleds. and riding on Uncle George's snowmobile, I can also remember the snow forts that we kids made and the snow fights we had. the snow forts were great for blocking the wind, this helped to make it feel warmer ducking behind the fort. It was great fun back than. Memories I will always treasure.

My dog Bella took to my son really good. I honestly believe that dogs can since things that humans cannot.

The picture on the right is a picture I took outside of my cabin. I really enjoy being out in the woods. It is a place that I can let my imagination run free. I can since what it must have been like when the Indians lived here. Before the white man set foot upon this land. Th...

End of year celebration with my children and their families

Image
Hi this year we are going to rent a cabin at Backbone State Park to celebrate the end of the year of 2017. I am really looking forward to it. The date we have set up is Nov. 25, and 26. I regret that my oldest son Matthew will not be able to come. He has special needs, has been found by the state back when he was sixteen of being a sex offender. I know he has had a problem with feeling rejected by his adopted father. Yes, my three older children were adopted by their step-dad. I let him adopted them since I did not feel it was right for him to be supporting them without any financial help from their birth dad. Their birth dad chose not to come see them just because while they were small I  wanted his visit to be supervise since I felt I could not trust him to bring them back and I was also afraid for both my two older daughters safety with him, I say this because my oldest daughter when she knew her dad would becoming home she acted like she was scared of him. and one time after pu...

What I am hoping to finish in the month of December

I hope to finish the book titled Beauty and the Beast  Lost in A book , by Jennifer Donnelly. I also want to finish book 2 of The Wingfeather Saga in this book I am on chapter 39. I also want to read the book titled Number the Stars ,  by Lois Lowry. I treat books like watching television. I move from one book to another like a person would change channels on a television to watch what they want to watch. I also am working on reading,  Hunted , by Meagan Spooner. another book I am working on is The Curse Breath of Yesterday , by Emily Bold. It is book 2 of the series. I have a tendency to pick series for books to read, more than just a novel.

What I am reading now in October 2017

For my book club I am reading The Foundling , By Paul Joesph Fronczak. It is based on a true story, a kidding napping right out of a Chicago hospital. The person that took the newborn baby from the baby boy's mother was dressed as a nurse. This book is classified as a criminology book but I think it is more a story that would be classified as autobiography of the author himself.  He is not sure if his identity is correct.   The other book I am reading is The Curse of Eternity , by Emily Bond.  it is about a seventeen year old girl that travels to Scotland as a foreign exchange student. She is unaware of the danger she is in. Centuries ago  there was a battle between two clans the Cameron clan, and the Stuart clan joined by the McLean clan. Samantha returns to Delaware and the ancient clans go looking for her in America. Sam realizes that everything Payton said is to. She read about it in a book that belonged her grandmother. In this b...

Working with a nurse's favorite aide.

Last night 10pm-6 am shift, September 22, 2017. I was suppose to work with Mrs. C but instead Miss J asked Mrs. C to trade places with her so she could work the Unit. I think that the nurse's in charge should put their foot down and tell Miss J. That the work assignments will remain the way it is unless East or west is short.

Dealing with Arthritis pain

My hands have arthritis on a scale of one to ten, the pain I experience from it is a five at times but at most of the time the pain I am experiencing is a one. I need to talk to the doctor about what type of stuff I can do to help manage the pain I am experiencing. I have a doctor appointment on the 8th of September, for my arthritis pain. Well, I have a doctor appointment for my arthritis. I did as the pharmacist if there was anything that I could use on my hands to help alleviate the pain. She pointed out a over the counter ointment I could use, the name of it is Aspercreme.  This medication does work to keep the pain under control while I am working. I work as a nurse's aide, on the night shift.  Cold weather makes my arthritis flair up.

The book I am reading/listening.

I like reading, but I do not have the time to read at work. I work nights at Grandview Heights, in Marshalltown so what I do to get reading in I listen an follow along. I do this on my breaks. I have also recorded some of my readings. I have placed these on Facebook. I am going to share them here too.  Please over look my appearance. Sme of these were done after I got off work or was just waking up.

Adrian eye Doctor appointments

May 22, 2017:Update: Today Adrian had an eye dr. appointment down in Iowa City. He is doing good, his medications have been changed a little. and he does not have to go back for 6 weeks. I find this extremely good since I will be starting a new job. Orientation is Tuesday and Wednesday. I am happy. God is my provider and his timing is perfect,

Books I am reading

The books are that I am reading are as follows: Lamentation, by Ken Scholes  I find this book to be  a book for an advanced adult reader, the main reason is because each chapter is broken up into different parts, The parts are the main characters in the book. These characters are Rudolfo, Petronus, Jin Li Tam, Neb. It is a confusing piece of work to read because of the way it bounces around from Rudolfo, to maybe Jin Li Tam, to Neb and to Petronus. In every chapter it does this throughout the book. I am beginning to think that each of these names represent the ruler over a particular area.  I am on Chapter 9, I hope that I will get it finished before I have to return it to the Library. The genre is Science Fiction with a total of 32 chapters. From what I have read so far there is fighting going on. Futuristic fighting, but the cover shows men on horses.     As I continue with my reading of Lamentation in chapter 12 a new character is introduced...

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children book and the movie

In the movie Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children,  Emma was the one that would float away if she was not anchor down. But in the book Emma was the one that could start a fire is she so desired by just the touch of her hands. The book is more in depth when it come to telling a story. In the book Millard the invisible boy get shot, but in the movie they leave that out. In the book Miss Peregrine does not recover as quickly so therefore is forced to remain in bird form. In the movie Miss Peregrine is completely recovered and is standing on a high platform looking out to where the ship that the children had raised from the depth of the sea to rescue Miss Peregrine from her captors. Then Miss Peregrine turns into a bird an flies toward the ship.     In the book, the children leave the island that was there home in canoes. The next book, The Hollow City takes over their adventurous story.

Day home after hospital stay

Adrian is doing great. His eye medication is as follows; Atropine 1% ophthalmic solution 1 drop  a day onto left eye daily, Dorzolamide-timolol 2-0.5% ophthalmic solution (cosopt) 2 times a day, Trbramycin-dexamethasone 0.3-0.1% ophyhalmic suspension (Tobradex) 1 drop 4 times a day, and Genteal Tears ophthalmic solution 1 drop onto left eye 2 times a day. Raising a child with down syndrome is challenging, with all the doctor appointments and surgeries, a child with down syndrome might have to have. But I would not trade it for all the money in the world. My son has taught me so much from day one. The two things that my son has taught me was one to have faith in God and to trust him completely with the welfare of not only my son Adrian but my other children and grandchildren as well. The second thing my son Adrian taught mew was to have patience. For patience is the key to raising a child with Down Syndrome, really it applies to any child that might have special ...

Surgery Memories

May 4, 2017 Today, I am writing from my room at the Ronald McDonald house in Iowa City, My son Adrian who has Down Syndrome had the oil bubble removed from his only good eye that he can see out of. It has been one doctor appointment after another here lately. I lost my job do to so many absences form work taking care of my son and his medical needs. The last job was at Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel. I was not employed there long enough to qualify for FMLA. It sucks but my son eyesight is more important than a job. I am hoping that this will be the last surgery that my son has to have. All went well yesterday. I hope that I get the job at R.E.M. of Iowa in Marshalltown Iowa, It will be a overnight shift, so I will be sleeping days and working nights, I pray I get the job my money in my savings is not going to last much longer. Not with having to pay bills and buy food.

We are home from the Hospital

Since, we have came home from the hospital. Adrian for the most part is back to being himself. My son Adrian has Down Syndrome, having a child with Down Syndrome can be a very trying with all the medical issues that arise from just being born with an extra chromosone. For my son this one little chromosone has caused him to have to undergo more surgeries than a typical child would have to go through. The first issue with my son was his heart. He under went heart surgery at 5 months of age. My faith was tried at that time. I spent a lot of my time in what they call the Meditation room in prayer, on the day of my son Adrian's heart surgery. Well, he pulled through with flying colors that day. Today at the age of 15 years, he still is going strong, without heart medication. But my son still has had battles that has to be over come. One is that his commuciation is not what it should be. My son does not hear well and as everyone knows if one does not hear well than they are not going to...

Adrian is in his hospital room

Image
Adrian is doing good. He keeps taking his eye patch off. Right now Adrian is completely blind not being able to see out of his good eye. I wish I could take his place so he would not have to go through    this. His hospital room is crowded. Which means I and his Sister Angela are going to have a rough night.

Adrian in the hospital for Retina reattachmen\l

Image
My son today is having Retina reattachment done for the second time. At his last eye doctor appointment, the doctor notice some scar tissue that was causing his retina to detach again. The doctor said that, he would have to go in and remove the scar tissue to reattach the retina. He is a picture of my son after being sedated.

Getting started with my brownie Troop

I am so excited about getting my Brownie troop started Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7 pm. The first meeting will be held on January 24 at the Library. I have 5 brownies. Tomorrow I will have them make name tags and something to take home as a keepsake. we will be working on the Girl Scout promise and the Girl Scout laws. I am going to make a poster with the Girl Scout Laws on it. The girls name tags will have the Girl Scout promise on it as well. Well will be sing a song that I learned when I was in Girl Scouts. It will be a lot of fun. And I know I myself will be learning along with the girls.     You might wonder why I am being a Girl Scout leader, being in my 50s, and all my own girls grown. As all parents know raising children is hard work. And back than, felt a lot of times that I needed a break from my children. Plus I have to admit I just did not have the patience back than as I do now. Plus, with these girls I am only going to ...

Seeking prayer

I often wonder what to pray for or better yet how to pray. I also wonder why someone might not want people to pray for them. Some people I feel let  their pride get in the way of asking  for prayer from strangers through facebook. I am just wondering, why people are afraid to have their name mention for prayer on a social media, and why would anyone doubt that prayers are being said in their behalf, How can on honestly say that someone is not praying for them when they post on social media that prayers are sent. I feel some people need to realize, that  you as a person have nothing to be a shamed of when you ask for prayer. I believe that a person that ask for prayer through a social media, like face book is a very strong person. It takes a strong person to know that they can not face the situation whatever it may be alone, nor should they have to. So the next time you need prayer for whatever reason please do not be afraid to reach out to others. For you have nothing to l...
